Titling Requirements Temporarily Amended – Obedience/Rally/Agility

July 16, 2020

To All Clubs Licensed for Obedience, Rally and Agility:

To better assist clubs and exhibitors during this unusual time in our sports, the Obedience, Rally and Agility departments received approval by the AKC Board of Directors to change the number of judges required for awarding some titles in obedience, rally and agility.  Due to the travel restrictions and other local regulations impacting the country from COVID-19, many clubs are struggling to bring in judges from outside their area, plus exhibitors are looking to stay close to home.

This change will eliminate the requirement that two different judges are required for the titles shown below that require three qualifying scores (legs) to earn the titles.  The change is effective retroactively to July 1, 2020 and will be in effect through December 31, 2020.  The Regulations suspension will be revisited at the end of the year.

For all of the titles listed at the bottom of this announcement exhibitors may earn three qualifying scores (legs) under the same judge through December 31, 2020.

ONGOING SHOWS: The Learning Cluster -- Guthrie,OK

Alternate text The first all-breed dog shows in the United States since the start of the COVID pandemic were held by  the Bartlesville Kennel Club, Claremore Kennel Club of Oklahoma and the Mid-Del Tinker Kennel Club at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK on June 27 - 30.  Appropriately the event was called the Learning Cluster.  Many of AKC’s Best Practices were applied.  It was indeed a learning experience as exhibitors had to re-think their traditional activities.

GREYHOUND CLUB OF AMERICA HONORS

Our Members excel in Competitions on a National Level. Janet Pike has done a beautiful job with a very non-traditional breed, the Greyhound.

She and two of her dogs received honors from the Greyhound Club of America recently.

Hawkeye tied for #1 in Novice Obedience.

Janet says that Hawkeye has been a challenge to train because of his sighthound instincts. With perseverance they are working on his Rally RAE.

Kinky is the #1 Rally Master Greyhound.

At 10 years old, Kinky had finished his Rally Titles, but Janet dusted him off and brought him out of retirement to train for the new Master Level. Kinky has a lovely temperament and has always been a willing partner to Janet - and the team succeeded in earning their 10 qualifying legs for the Rally Master Title. Congratulations to Janet and her "Superman."

ELLEN'S NOVICE CLASS

  • Would like to finish off 3 last classes in August
  • Putting together a Covid 19 Social Distancing Plan which will entail:
    • Confirming there are enough cleaning supplies in building.
    • Requiring Students to wear masks.
    • Requiring Students to bring their own crates and chairs and hand sanitizer.
    • Requiring Students to Social Distance within the building.
    • Students will be required to disinfect their area that they left any of their personal equipment or surfaces that they touched.
Since this is so unique to anything we have experienced, this may provide a nice template on the do's and don'ts of our club continuing to offer classes in Covid-19 America.
